What Is Decomposition Cleanup?
Decomposition cleanup addresses the biological material and odor left behind after a death has gone undiscovered for a period of time. This is one of the more technically demanding services offered in Yanceyville, NC, requiring specialized equipment to fully remove contamination from flooring, subflooring, and surrounding materials. Technicians manage every part of the process so that family members and property owners are not exposed to the hazard directly.
Why You Need It
Decomposition byproducts pose a significant biohazard risk and can travel further into a property than is visible on the surface, particularly into subfloor material, wall cavities, and HVAC systems. Odor associated with decomposition is also notoriously difficult to remove once it has settled into porous building materials, often requiring more than standard cleaning to fully eliminate. Left unaddressed, these issues can affect the structural materials of a property and create a health hazard for anyone who enters the space.
Our Process
Hazard Assessment
Technicians evaluate the full extent of decomposition-related contamination, including how far it may have spread beneath surfaces.
Material Removal
Contaminated flooring, subflooring, or other affected materials are removed and handled as regulated biohazard waste.
Deep Disinfection
Remaining surfaces and structural elements are disinfected thoroughly to eliminate any biological hazard.
Odor Neutralization
Specialized equipment is used to treat odor that has penetrated deep into materials, going beyond what standard air fresheners or cleaning can achieve.
What to Expect
This service requires more specialized handling than most biohazard jobs, so expect a thorough assessment before work begins. Technicians will explain what they find and what needs to be removed versus what can be treated in place. Depending on how far the contamination has spread, the job can take from a full day to several days, particularly if flooring needs replacement or extended odor treatment is required. The space is only handed back once both the biohazard and odor concerns have been fully addressed.
Why Choose Alert Bio-Services for This Service
- Specialized odor-neutralizing equipment reaches contamination that has settled into subfloors and building materials, not just surface areas.
- Technicians are trained specifically in decomposition-related biohazard protocol, which differs from general blood or fluid cleanup.
- All removal and disposal follows regulated medical waste guidelines, protecting the property owner from future liability.
- The process is handled with discretion and sensitivity, recognizing the difficult circumstances that typically surround this type of job.
Frequently Asked Questions
The contamination often spreads deeper into building materials, and odor removal requires specialized equipment and treatment time beyond standard disinfection.
Not always, but it is common when fluids have reached subfloor material. A technician can confirm the extent after an on-site assessment.
Industrial-grade deodorization equipment and treatments target odor at the source, addressing material that has absorbed it rather than just masking the smell.
Frequently, yes. We provide documentation that supports insurance claims, though coverage depends on your specific policy.
Yes, decomposition-related contamination in a vehicle is treated with the same level of care, including odor treatment specific to enclosed spaces.
As soon as possible. Both the biohazard risk and the odor problem become more difficult to resolve the longer the situation goes untreated.
